Superchunk

Superchunk é uma banda de rock alternativo formada em 1989 na cidade de Chapel Hill, Carolina do Norte, por Mac McCaughan (vocal/guitarra), Laura Ballance (baixo), Jack McCook (guitarra) e Chuck Garrison (bateria). Junto à banda, também foi criada a Merge Records, gravadora fundada por Laura Ballance e Mac McCaughan, em 1989, e pela qual o quarteto lançou os seus trabalhos e de bandas de amigos. Sendo que os três primeiros álbuns foram distribuídos pela Matador Records.

A banda lançou em 1990 o seu primeiro álbum, intitulado simplesmente Superchunk. Mais tarde o guitarrista Jack McCook saiu da banda, cedendo o seu lugar para Jim Wilbur. Em 1991, o Superchunk lançou o excelente No Pocky for Kitty. Em 1993, Jon Wurster entra como novo baterista do grupo. Nesse mesmo ano saiu On the Mouth, o terceiro disco. Na sequência vieram os álbuns Foolish (1994) e Here's Where the Strings Come In (1995). Deste disco saiu o hit "Hyper Enough".

Indoor Living, o sexto álbum de estúdio do Superchunk, foi lançado em 1997. Dois anos depois saiu Come Pick Me Up. Here's to Shutting Up (2001) e Majesty Shredding (2010) foram os dois álbuns completos lançados pela banda nos primeiros anos do século 21. O décimo álbum de estúdio do grupo, intitulado I Hate Music, saiu em 2013.
